Its a big week for early voting and campaigning here in Champaign County. We hope you’ll join us for one of the many candidate events listed below. As the February 2 primary nears we’ll keep you up-to-date on local news and events.

Early and absentee voting is underway
Are you ready to cast your ballot in the Republican primary, or unable to vote in person on February 2, 2010? Early voting runs from January 11, 2010 through Thursday, January 28, 2010. Please visit the Champaign County Clerks website for full details.

Governor Edgar to host a free meet and greet with Congressman Mark Kirk
Tuesday, January 12
Join Governor Jim Edgar for a meet and greet tailgate with Congressman Mark Kirk Republican Candidate for US Senate on Tuesday, January 12, 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the iHotel, Alma Mater Room (1900 S. First Street, Champaign). Light refreshments and cash bar. No charge for admission.

Illinois gubernatorial debates hosted by WILL and WSIU
Thursday, Jan. 14th

Republican candidates will debate in the WILL-TV studio at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, while Democrats face off at WSIU at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21. The debates will air on PBS television and public radio stations statewide. WILL-TV and WSIU-TV will carry both debates live, as will WILL-AM and WSIU Radio, which will also stream the debates live at will.illinois.edu and wsiu.org respectively. Check local listings for the date and time in your area. Please note the studios are not open to the public during the debate.

Meet and greet with Dan Proft, Republican candidate for governor
Friday January 15th, 2010
Illinois Republican Gubernatorial candidate Dan Proft will be at the Urbana Garden Family restaurant at 8 am on Friday January 15th, 2010 at 8 am for a coffee and to meet and greet voters in and around the area.  The Urbana Garden Family restaurant is at 810 West Killarney which is just off north Lincoln Avenue at Interstate 74 in Urbana, IL.

The Put-Back Amendment informational meeting
Sunday, January 17th

There is a citizen-initiated amendment to reform Springfield and bring term limits and redistricting reform the Legislature. Learn more about the Put-Back Amendment, written by Champaign Republican John Bambenek, on January 17th, at 1:30pm at the Champaign Public Library.
